College Construction

The Lord has been so Good!!
The one activity our church people are very familiar with is construction.  Over the past ten years our church has completed eight construction projects. This past week we started and finished project number nine!
The class I taught in our college this week was on construction projects. What better way is there to learn about construction than to get your hands dirty and build something? I decided that for this class I would have the students remodel our platform. I wanted to extend the platform and add a choir loft. My goal was to have everything done and ready to go by Saturday night. This was going to be a challenge!

Before Construction

Monday night we started demolition. We cleared the platform and then began to rip up the old wood flooring. Once the wood floor was up it was time to start measuring and figuring out exactly what materials we were going to need. We finished Monday night up by marking the outline of the new platform.

Day One of Construction

Tuesday night we split up into two teams and got right to work. I worked with my son, Buddy, and Brandon Romack. We built the new front edge of the platform. The second team was Bro. Chet Smith and Bro. Eric Henrickson. They worked on building the risers for the choir loft.

Day Two of Construction

Wednesday, Buddy and I made sure that the platform would be usable for church that night.

 Before Wednesday Night Service

Thursday the clock was ticking steadily away. We knew we still had a fair amount of work to do before Saturday. Once again we split into teams and got down to business. Our goal was to get the dry wall put up on the front of the platform and choir loft as well as get the boards put down for the floor in the choir loft. Once we were finished, I noticed we had about twenty minutes of class left so we decided to begin laying some of the new wood floor.

Day Three of Construction

Friday came and it was crunch time! Only two more days till our deadline. The major goal Friday was to finish laying the wood floor. We all pitched in some way. Between laying the wood, cutting the wood, and drilling holes in the wood we all had plenty to do. We also had lots of caulking and painting to do! We all worked late Friday night to ensure we would finish on time Saturday.
                   Day Four of Construction

Saturday dawned cold with a hint of snow in the air. After bus visitation and soul winning, we all got back to work. We had a lot of finishing touches to put on things.  We trimmed out the platform, laid carpet in the choir loft, and finished all the painting! As the construction came to a close our church people came in to help with the clean up. Everything was finished and ready to go for Sunday about 10 pm Saturday night!
