Preaching Catch Phrases of The IFB!
I would like to clarify my earlier Tweet. In our 2015 Independent Baptist Movement we have a problem with naming sin! If it is national sin we can name it and if it is political sin we can name it, but if it is sin that is in our homes, churches, and movement leadership than it is seldom mentioned. We have many national preachers and evangelist that love to say things that get "Amens" but are not willing to say things that get "Oh me's!"
So let me ask what is off-handed Christianity? What is flabby-checked Christianity? What is brittle-boned Christianity? What is weak-kneed Christianity? What is thin-skinned Christianity? What is pliable Christianity? What is plastic Christianity? What is skinless Christianity? What is effeminate Christianity? What is ossified Christianity? What is three-karat Christianity?
This statement was made by a man who, although stood strong on more issues than do most Baptist preachers today, was part of a denomination that baptized infants. Truth is, very few have the power of God on them that they can define sin and preach to as many as Billy Sunday did. Today evangelists call for the power of God but are afraid to hurt the people preaching against specific sin. So they hide behind the leading of the Holy Spirit. "If the Holy Spirit leads me Brother I'll say it!"
Question, have you ever read your Bible? Because if you have, you know it tells us what to say and how to say it!
I was simply saying that the statement alone, although a great statement, only has depth when we define its contents by scripture. As it sits undefined it lacks the bite it needs to deal with what is breeding this kind of Christianity. This is the typical broad statement made to bring many together but it leaves the issues untouched. If we don't define the issues, we don't fix the problems. If we don't fix the problems, we have more of what Billy Sunday asked God to deliver us from. If however, anyone has the guts in 2015 to give these tags specific descriptions than they will split the movement and not have many places to preach.
The best quotes, thoughts, and preaching are those founded in clear Biblical definition. 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Anything else is just not as profitable!
